With more than 350 days of favorable weather conditions annually, the Greater Yuma region provides a reliable testing environment that supports aerospace and defense operations in Arizona. This climate has made Yuma County a location of interest for local aerospace companies in Arizona, as well as major industry leaders, including Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Rolls‑Royce Engines, many of which support programs aligned with the U.S. Department of Defense. The region includes a 1,300‑square‑mile proving ground used for testing weapons systems, aerial platforms, ground vehicles, and advanced defense technologies.
The Yuma Defense Contractor Complex is a 100+ acre aviation industrial park located at Yuma International Airport, featuring aprons and taxiways with direct access to 13,300’, 10,000’+, and 8,000+ runways for aerial systems of all sizes. The complex supports activities related to avionics, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), research and development, and manufacturing, serving both commercial aerospace and Department of Defense‑related programs. A regional workforce of more than 6,400 former military personnel with avionics, mechanical, and aerospace backgrounds provides an experienced labor pool to support these operations.
The Defense Contractor Complex at Yuma International Airport represents one of the newest aviation‑focused defense parks in the country. Since its launch in 2009, the 120‑acre development has attracted a range of aerospace and defense firms, including companies supporting aerospace operations in Arizona and national defense initiatives. The growth of the DCC reinforces Yuma’s position as a location for defense‑related aerospace activity and its alignment with aviation and defense industry operations.
