Due to our fertile soil, senior water rights to the Colorado River, and expansive land mass, the Greater Yuma region is uniquely positioned to lead in both food production and agricultural technology. Our farmers and food processors grow more than 170+ different crops to feed America, leveraging precision agriculture technology and other new technology in agriculture to maximize yields and sustainability.
Within a 100-mile radius, food processors can access poultry farms with 2,000,000+ chickens and feed lots with 750,000+ head of cattle for protein inputs. Complementing this, the region’s commercial dairy farms produce 800,000+ gallons of fluid milk per month, while over 40,000 acres of wheat are grown annually. By integrating agriculture water conservation technology and other innovative agricultural technologies, producers ensure long-term efficiency and resilience.
Greater Yuma is also embracing blockchain technology in agriculture to enhance food traceability, as well as exploring urban agriculture technology to expand production models. Our food production workforce of 15,000 individuals combines deep expertise with advancements in technology in agriculture, creating opportunities not only in farming but also in computer technology jobs in agriculture. This workforce generates 90% of the nation’s winter leafy vegetables and other crops for worldwide consumption, demonstrating how traditional farming and modern agricultural technology converge here to feed the world.
